  • Basic Eligibility & Application Process

    1. What if I haven’t received my graduation certificate yet?
     Submit a pre-graduation certificate issued by your previous institution (indicating the expected graduation date); the official graduation certificate must be obtained and submitted before the registration semester.


    2. Can I apply for multiple programs in one academic year?
     Only one program application is allowed per academic year; multiple applications are generally not permitted.


    3. Can I change my major after enrollment?
     No. Once admitted, major changes are not allowed. Applicants must carefully confirm their target major before submission.


    4. Is an entrance exam/assessment required?
     - Undergraduate applicants: Must take the CSCA Exam (Official Website: www.csca.cn)
     - Master’s & PhD applicants: Assessment is completed via online interviews combined with academic document review


    5. When will I receive the admission result?
     Results will be released within 4–8 weeks after complete application materials are verified and interviews are finished. The university will notify applicants via the online application system or email.


    6. Are recommendation letters required?
     - Undergraduates: Not mandatory
     - Master’s & PhD applicants: Must submit 2 recommendation letters signed by professors or associate professors


    7. Does the university accept transfer students?
     Transfer students are not accepted at this time.


    8. Are there pre-enrollment training courses?
     No pre-enrollment training courses of any kind are offered. The Admissions Office does not cooperate with any individuals, companies or institutions to provide profit-making application-related training.


  • Application Fee

    1. When should I pay the application fee?
     The fee must be paid upon application submission, with varying amounts by program. Application review and interview arrangement will only start after successful payment.


    2. What if I cannot pay directly to the designated BUCT bank account?
     Entrust a friend in China to make the payment on your behalf. Clearly note your full name and applied program during payment for university verification.

    1. What are the deadlines for CSC Scholarship programs?
     - High-Level Graduate Program: Expected deadline March 30
     - Silk Road Program: Expected deadline June 30
     Early submission of materials is strongly recommended.


    2. Which systems need to be filled for CSC Scholarship applications?
     Complete both the BUCT Online Application System and the CSC National System simultaneously (BUCT:
    http://study.buct.edu.cn CSC: https://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn). Our university’s CSC institution code is 10010.


    3. Is it normal if the system shows Self-funded after applying for a scholarship?
     Yes, this is normal. Scholarships are confirmed only after passing subsequent interviews; the system defaults to Self-funded during the application phase. No extra operation is needed—please await interview notifications.

    1. Are original documents required for application?
     Yes. Original copies of all online-submitted documents must be provided for verification during comprehensive assessment or official registration. Any forged certificates will result in immediate cancellation of assessment eligibility or admission.


    2. How to update materials if errors are found after submission?
     Contact the Admissions Office to request the application be returned for revision, then resubmit after correction. For incorrect accounts, apply to delete the wrong account and associated records, then re-register with accurate information.


    3. What if file upload options are unclear or display abnormally?
     Try switching browsers and clearing cache first. If the issue persists, contact the Admissions Office for assistance.


    4. Why are financial guarantor forms and employment/income certificates required?
     These are mandatory for Chinese visa applications, to prove sufficient financial capacity to cover living and study expenses in China.

    1. How to provide degree authentication?
     Submit both the original degree certificate and corresponding authentication report, with the authentication body determined by the degree-issuing institution:
     - Degrees from overseas universities: Authentication report issued by China Scholarship Council Student Service Center (CSCSE) (Inquiry Link: http://zwfw.cscse.edu.cn/)
     - Degrees from mainland Chinese universities: Authentication report issued by China Student Services & Development Center (CSSD, Chsi) (Inquiry Link: https://www.chsi.com.cn/en/)


    2. What if application materials are not in English or Chinese?
     All non-English/non-Chinese documents must be translated into English or Chinese and notarized before submission.


  • Language Requirements

    1. Do non-native English speakers need TOEFL/IELTS scores?
     TOEFL or IELTS scores are acceptable, as well as equivalent English proficiency certificates (e.g., Duolingo) as proof of language ability.


    2. What HSK score is required for Chinese-taught programs? Is a preparatory course certificate needed?
     HSK Level 4 or above (minimum 180 points) is required. CSC Type A Master’s/PhD students do not need a preparatory course certificate—only a valid HSK score is sufficient.


    3. Where to find HSK exam information?
     HSK exams are organized by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) with test centers worldwide (Inquiry Link: http://www.chinesetest.cn/ChangeLan.do?languge=en&t=1563436128335).


  • Study & Visa During Enrollment

    1. Can I work part-time during study?
     Part-time work is generally not allowed. Under special circumstances, students may engage in compliant internships after official approval from the university and relevant authorities, in accordance with Chinese laws and regulations.


    2. What accommodation options are available?
     On-campus dormitories are provided for international students. Off-campus accommodation is also permitted, but students must complete accommodation registration with local authorities as required.


    3. How to apply for a student visa (X1/X2)?
     Apply for a student visa at the nearest Chinese embassy/consulate with the admission letter and JW201/JW202 form issued by the university.


    4. Is medical insurance mandatory?
     Yes. All international students must purchase medical insurance before registration in accordance with Chinese government regulations, to ensure medical coverage during enrollment.
